About this website

There are plenty of websites promoting ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock prints), but very few dealing with Japanese books. This website attempts to fill that gap.

The aim is to make the site as interactive as possible, catering to people's tastes, responding to enquiries, tracking down material, etc.

About me

I am a teacher of English literature in a Japanese university; visit my website for students to find out about that side of my life. I spent years as a research student poring over rare books and manuscripts, but at that stage my interest was in the contents. I did not become interested in books as collectible objects until much later on. You can find links to my own collections below.

2. "HEADS THAT ROLLED: THE BOOKS OF THE MARTYRS"

- Material connected with those who suffered for their beliefs during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
